Although the AIFA All-Stars did not see a victory against
the Richmond Raiders (45-49) during the Kickoff Classic, they helped display a
great indoor game in front of 5,000 fans.
For a team that has never played together before this past weekend, versus a
team who has spent the last month together, fans could not draw up a better
match.
Throughout the game there were four lead changes and one tie, all culminating
in the All-Stars down 17 points (31-49) with 4:17 remaining. Not giving
up, the Stars shown and scored twice before failing to retrieve on onside kick
and losing by four.
The Knights were well represented, and even though they only sent four players,
one defensive and three offensive, they accounted for 25% of the tackles
against the Raiders.
Jason Hermansen was third high in tackles from both teams with 4.0 total
tackles (3 solo; 2 asst.) while Adrian Conway was one of only two All-Star
receivers with a touchdown (two receptions for 25-yards). Although Conway
and Buckway are offensive players for the Knights, they managed to help wrestle
in 2.5 tackles to add to the Knights' total. Not outdone by any means,
Travis Brower, along with Buckway, helped to hunker down the o-line so that
each All-Star quarterback threw for multiple touchdowns (five total).
In the end, the Knights carried themselves well, performed above what was
expected and represented their 2010 team well.
